Scarification: Soak in hot tap water, let stand in water for 24 hours or roughen or scrape the hard seed coat prior to sowing

Germination: sow seed up to 1/4 deep , tamp the soil, maintain an even moisture. Temp. for good germination - 68 - 70 degrees F.
Comments:
Perennial with characteristic palmate leaves. Each leaf has 6 to 9 narrow leaflets. The flowers, blue to blue violet, pea like and produced at the end of branches. Seeds are produced in pea like pods. Blooms, 6 to 18 inches long, late spring to early summer. Grown in gardens, fields and roadsides. pH 6 to 8.
Physical Characteristics : PERENNIAL growing to 1.5 m (5ft). It is hardy to zone 3. It is in flower from Jul to August, and the seeds ripen from Jul to October. The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated by Bees.It can fix Nitrogen. The plant prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils, requires well-drained soil and can grow in nutritionally poor soil.The plant prefers acid and neutral soils. and can grow in very acid soils. It cannot grow in the shade.It requires moist soil and can tolerate drought.The plant can tolerates strong winds but not maritime exposure.
