Featuring large, serrated leaves, the Annual Honesty plant (Lunaria annua) is a tall, flowering specimen native to the Balkans and southwest Asia, now spread throughout Europe, North America, and parts of Asia. Its common English name 'Honesty' is thought to have arisen from the transparent, flattened seed-pods it bears through winter, which resemble pea-pods. Variably called the Money Plant, Silver Dollars, Judaspenge, or Judaspenning depending on its location, its seed pods are likened to silver coins, referencing to Judas Iscariot. This hardy biennial attracts bees and butterflies and is ideal for cultivation in shaded areas or wildflower gardens. Often used in floral arrangements, the seedpods luminate with a silvery sheen when the skin falls off. Money plant can grow up to 3 ft tall, and is easy-to-grow.
